Some window washers simply spray the screen with a hose in hopes it will come out clean. If this is the only step taken, unfortunately the screen will likely end up looking more dirty then before. A better technique is to not get the screens wet at all and simply use a dry brush to clean off the dust and pollen. This technique, however, does release a lot of dust and pollen into the air, so it’s a good idea to wear a face mask, and is not recommended if you have allergies. Another technique involves using a sponge to thoroughly wet, but not soak, the entire screen and frame with soapy water. The next step is to gently “flick” the screen using a rag or cloth to shake off the soap and water. Finally, use a rag to dry any remaining wet spots on the screen and wipe off the frame. This last technique takes a bit of practice to get it right.
